" Sacred Gubinge Trees" by June Djiagween
For the Bardi-Jawi and Yawuru tribes it is not typical to paint with dots, so this painting is a contemporary interpretation of bush healing. The main thought behind this painting is that everything comes from the center. The center center represents the center of the earth as the world’s main source of healing. The teardrop shaped berries in the middle are Gubinge (also known as Cacadu Plum), symbolize healing. Around the center the Gubinge trees gather healing from the center of the earth and spread it to the surroundings.
The remaining dots are different kinds of bush tucker. The red dots are Mummajud, the round white dots are Goel and the long white ones Mungubula.
